The Kovachim class has been busy these last few weeks. We have been busy focusing on our alphabet and learning the letters. Along with our usual day to day activities, we have studied books about various countries that coincide with our letter of the week. Recently, those countries include: Greece, Holland, Israel, and Jamaica. With each country we have done a project that has helped us focus not only on the letter each country represents, but on the history and culture of that country. For Greece we held our own Olympic games where the children participated in a marathon and received medals. It was a great way for the kids to get active and learn about the history and tradition of the Olympics. Next, we turned our focus to The Netherlands, aka Holland. While learning about Holland, we rode bicycles on paint, which the children loved! The book about Israel inspired us to practice a traditional Israeli dance and make hummus. And finally, for Jamaica the children enjoyed making Jamaican beads.
Coming up we will be starting the “Shabbat Star” program in February. This is an opportunity for each child to do a presentation on Friday before Shabbat. The weekly “star” will be responsible for doing a presentation in front of the class where he/she will get to tell everyone a bit more about him/herself. The child will also be Rabbi’s special guest for the preschool’s weekly Shabbat celebration.
