The Kochavim class has fallen into fall. The class project they have been working on, include: decorating a big apple with tissue paper and fabric, making challah covers and shofars, and creating honey bowls for Rosh Hashanah. Decorating the Sukkah for Sukkot with chains, bumble bees made from plastic bottles, edible Sukkahs from graham crackers, cream cheese, and parsley. Kochavim also baked challah this month and made Torah flags. They were very productive this month despite all the holidays.
The class has been working with numbers a lot this month. Measuring and weighing apples, along with tasting them, and planting apple seeds.
Pre-K studied some great books this month. “Jonah and The Great Whale”, “How to Rosh Hashana Challah Became Round”, “The Hardest Word”, and “Our First Sukkah”. They were great stories to go along with all of the Jewish holidays that were celebrated in the month of October.
In honor of Simchat Torah, the class also used feather and ink to create a Torah scroll. They also learned about the Shofar and its three sounds, and parts of the Torah, such as manter, torah scroll, torah crown, yad, and Hebrew letters.
