The month of September was dedicated to the High Holidays! For Rosh Hashana we painted red apple plates, made placemats, tasted pomegranates, and sorted them by color and size. We read “Sound of Shofar” by Leslie Kimmelman, “Apples and Honey” by J Zucker & J Cohen, and “The Shofar Calls to Us” by Katherine J Kahn. We played games and counted apples on the apple tree.
For Sukkot we made lots of fruit! We peeled an orange to feel the different textures inside and outside and talked the about shapes and seeds. We played matching puzzle games and visited the Sukkah with Rabbi Josh. We read “Our First Sukkah” by Norma Simon and “Let’s Build A Sukkah” by Madeline Griffin.
For Simchat Torah we printed Hebrew letters on Torah Scrolls and visited the Sanctuary/ We saw where the Torah Scrolls are kept, and learned about the different tools to keep the Torah safe- crown, pointer, and wooden rollers.
We also discussed different emotions and appropriate way to express anger. We talked about the concept “I’m sorry.” We worked on being kind, helping our friends, sharing, taking turns, and listening to others. There is so much to learn when you’re 2!
