The month we studied the Jewish holiday of Purim. We decorated crowns with paint, dot markers, and crayons. We also made masks out of our hand prints to wear for the Purim festivities.
In Shorashim recently, we have also been practicing our sign language words related to this month’s theme. We learned how to sign “cookie” for Hamantaschen and “hat” for crown.
We read “The Story of Esther” by Eric A. Kimmel, “The Purim Superhero” by Elisabeth Kushner, and “Barnyard Purim” by Kelly Terwilliger. The children loved the different books!
We also had a walking field trip to the local Fire Station where the children and teachers got to wear costumes in celebration of Purim and deliver some delicious hamantaschen to the firefighters, while teaching them about Purim and while they taught us a little more about what they do. It was such a fun day!
