We have been quite busy in Silverman’s Parparim 1 class talking about Chanukah and other winter related things.
We have used the Chanukah and winter themes to help us work on our fine motor skills recently. Spinning the dreidel helped us work on learning some Hebrew letters, our fine motor skills, and counting skills (counting gelt pieces). As a class, we did more fine motor work by doing number matching with peel and stick numbers, and tracing along a dotted line with a dry erase marker.
Books we have enjoyed recently are: “The Jacket I Wear in the Snow”, “Snow in Jerusalem”, “Story of Funnukkah”, “Sammy Spider’s First Hanukkah”, and “Why Should I Listen?”.
The teachers have been working hard with the children in learning the difference between saying, “I don’t want to play” and “I don’t want to be your friend”. The kids have also been getting daily jobs to help them learn more responsibility around the classroom, working on putting on their own jackets for outside time, and also learning the importance of staying together as a class.
